For Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, their family is everything
Nicole Richie appears to have it all: A loving husband, beautiful children and a successful career, but she's never had a strong example of what a family life is.
The mom-of-two revealed during Sunday's episode of Oprah Winfrey's Where Are They Now? that for her, the hardest part about being married to her rocker beau is the fact that they share children together.
"We met and we were partners from day one. And from the second we found out we were going to be parents together, we looked at each other and we said, 'Okay, both of our parents are divorced. We both have had ups and downs with our parents and we don't really have a strong example of what a healthy family life is," Richie confessed to Oprah about what the best and worst part of being married is, E! News reports.
"But, we're recognizing that now, so let's work at it and let's go through this together as a team,'" she continued. "It's been great."
The lovebirds certainly appear to be very happy together and have been since they started dating back in 2006. They are also working hard at being great parents to their two children, Harlow, 6, and son Sparrow, 4.
"I have to always come from a place of love and compassion with them. My kids operate best when I let them have a voice," Richie continued. "And I really explain things to them, because really, kids want to be told the truth. They just do. They just want you to be truthful."
Oprah: Where Are They Now? airs Sundays at 9/8c on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.
