The late James Garner died of a massive heart attack
Legendary actor James Garner passed away at home in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, on July 19, and his cause of death has now been revealed: He died of a massive heart attack.
TMZ managed to get their hands on Garner's death certificate and it states that the Maverick star died from acute myocardial infarction.
The legal document also stated that the actor had been suffering from coronary artery disease for some time, according to TMZ, proving that the actor had not died of natural causes as previously thought.
Garner was loved for his role in The Rockford Files — for which he took home a Primetime Emmy in 1977 for his portrayal of detective Jim Rockford — as well as roles in Space Cowboys, The Great Escape, Murphy's Romance and The Notebook. He also starred in Bret Maverick as the title character, a role he truly loved.
The 86-year-old actor was no stranger to awards and racked up 15 Emmy Award nominations and two wins, and he has influenced and inspired many actors and actresses, a number of which paid tribute to the late actor.
"A great guy and a great actor passed away today — James Garner. A dear man...Rest in peace, James," tweeted Larry King,
Tom Selleck said, "Jim was a mentor to me and a friend, and I will miss him."
