MUSIC REVIEW: Rixton channel Maroon 5 on “Wait on Me

Attention, ladies! British foursome Rixton dropped their new single called “Wait on Me” on Tuesday, and it’s surely a contender for the song of the summer.

Utilizing a formula similar to Maroon 5, Jake Roche, Danny Wilkin, Charley Bagnall and Lewi Morgan offer up a radio-friendly tune in which frontman Jake attempts to persuade a gal into waiting for him because he’s thinks he’s Mr. Right. You have my attention, Jake. With a minor reggae influence and a sing-a-long chorus followed by an echoing whistle, “Wait on Me” serves as a not-so-groundbreaking but fitting Top 40 track for the current pop landscape.

“Wait on me/ I know how to love you/ And I wanna love you some more/ Wait on me/ Come a little closer/ Want to be the one to explore,” Jake persists on the hook.

“Wait on Me” was co-written by Benny Blanco and all four members of the band. Rixton is slowly but surely gaining major exposure in the States. Beginning on July 30, they’ll take their tunes across North America on a summer headlining trek called the Broken Heart Tour, with special guest T. Mills. Among the cities you can catch these heartthrobs in include Boston, Massachusetts, New York City, New York, Washington, D.C., Seattle, Washington, and more. On Aug. 4, the foursome is scheduled to take the new single to the late-night talk show world with a performance on Late Night With Seth Meyers.

SheKnows spoke with the guys earlier this year and learned quite a few fun facts about the band. Despite their lyrics on “Wait on Me,” it appears lead singer Jake doesn’t think he has many skills with the ladies. “Oh, my game is terrible. I’m awful. If there was a ranking on who’s got the best game in the world, I would probably be near the bottom — I’m that bad,” he confessed.
