Straight Outta Compton casting call sparks controversy

The casting call for Universal Pictures’ Straight Outta Compton is out, and while the film has not even begun (it’s set for release on Aug. 14, 2015), it’s already sparked worldwide controversy for the allegedly racist nature of its casting call.

While the film is set to star Dr. Dre and Ice Cube, it may have hit a brick wall thanks to the casting call posted by Sande Alessi Casting that went out yesterday.

The company is looking for ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’ and ‘D’ girls and has described the girls that they are looking for in the groups as “the hottest of the hot,” “fine girls, long natural hair, really nice bodies,” “African American girls, medium- to light-skinned with a weave,” and “African American girls. Poor, not in good shape.”

Whaaat? Many believe that this casting call is racially stereotyping and seriously offensive, as it’s ranking women within a class structure. However, others believe that casting calls by nature are meant to be plainspoken and focus mainly on appearance, including skin tone, and this one is no different.

The full casting call reads:
