Selena Gomez is starting her life fresh, and she’s remembering to put herself first.
The beauty has decided to mark her body with some fresh ink to serve as a reminder that she needs to love herself before anyone else — could it be a hint at her tumultuous relationship with on-again-off-again boyfriend Justin Bieber?

The “Slow Down” hit maker visited New York City, New York, celebrity tattoo artist Bang Bang McCurdy to add to her collection of tattoos, Us Weekly reports.
So what did Gomez end up getting? Well, she opted for an Arabic script, which, when translated, reads “Love Yourself First.”

And thanks to McCurdy, we’re able to get a glimpse of the Another Cinderella Story actress’ tattoo. McCurdy took to Instagram on Wednesday to share his handiwork, captioning the pic of Gomez, “Little gift for my friend @selenagomez.”
And Gomez took to Twitter to thank McCurdy in her own way.

However, the ink isn’t as fresh as we originally thought, as McCurdy revealed to E! News that Gomez got her tattoo “about a month ago,” adding that “she had been wanting this one for a while.”
“Selena already had it written out how she wanted,” he said. “The tattoo is about 4 inches, and didn’t take too long, probably about 30-45 minutes. The longest part is laying it out. We played with it a bit laying it out, until we found the perfect spot.”

And the “Come & Get It” hit maker was very pleased with the end product.
“She loved it; she flipped out!” McCurdy said happily.
The script now joins Gomez’s other tattoos, which include a tattoo of a music note on her wrist, a tiny phrase written in cursive on her right hip and the Roman numerals for 76 on her neck. We wonder what she’ll get next.
