Bring on the sex and rock ‘n’ roll! The trailer for writer-director John Ridley’s new Hendrix film, Jimi: All Is By My Side, has hit the internet and it is steamy!
The unauthorized bio pic stars Outkast’s André 3000 (credited as André Benjamin) as a young Jimi Hendrix on the cusp of stardom, with the trailer featuring plenty of sexy peeks into the singer’s early life.
Ridley, who won this year’s Oscar for writing 12 Years a Slave, was unable to acquire permission from Hendrix’s estate, so he set the film in the singer’s humble beginnings as an unknown backup guitarist in 1966-67 as he was just starting to make waves in New York and London.

As a result, you won’t see André playing any of Hendrix’s original music in this film, but instead, all new original music was recorded and is performed by Benjamin in the film.
The movie has been making waves at film festival’s with several audiences impressed by the 40-year-old Benjamin’s incredible transformation into the 20-year-old rock hero — but not everyone is happy. Critics of the film are crying foul over the film’s depiction of Hendrix as abusive towards women.
All Is By My Side includes a scene where Hendrix beats his girlfriend and primary love interest in the film, Kathy Etchingham, who is played by Hayley Atwell.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, the real Kathy Etchingham calls the scene “completely false” and claims that the screenwriter never contacted her, even though he wrote her into the film.

The film also features steamy moments between Hendrix and Linda Keith, the visionary British model who “discovered” Hendrix. Keith is played by Imogen Poots (That Awkward Moment).
Controversy aside, the film looks poised to impress audiences when it heads to theaters on September 26th and definitely sells an intriguing portrayal of Hendrix that has our curiosity piqued.
