Johnny Depp romance hasn't affected Amber Heard's career
Amber Heard may be the fiancée of Johnny Depp, but she is working hard to be taken seriously as an actress known for something other than her looks.
Amber Heard snagged one of the world's most eligible bachelors, but she still isn't opening up much about her engagement to Johnny Depp. The 28-year-old appears on the cover of W magazine for their June/July issue and she wanted to talk more about her career than her personal life.
Heard was "guarded" when asked about Depp, according to the magazine, but was willing to share how (or if) she feels it has changed her life and her career.
"I haven't noticed any change in my career," she said, according to the New York Daily News. "And, for better or worse, I've always had a love life that seemed particularly salacious to some people."
Heard admitted to giving false news to friends to see if any of them would leak it to the press, and has even changed her life to get away from the prying eyes of the press. She built a Mustang, but had to give up driving it due to photographers following her.
"I do miss driving my Mustang," she said. "But the photographers all know the Mustang and I hate being hassled. So it's stuck in the garage."
The former model also opened up about her looks defining her career, and wishes she had more opportunities like her role in The Rum Diary (the film where she met Depp). She said, "It's very hard to find opportunities like [Rum Diary] as a young romantic lead. As a woman, I usually have two options: Sex Object or the Best Friend Who Isn't Sexy. It's not creatively fulfilling to just be sexy. I did nothing to look the way I look, so to take pride in my looks would be a mistake."
Heard will next be seen in London Fields, and Depp will be joining her, but only in a cameo role. The film is expected to be released sometime in 2014.
