Ryan Reynolds booed at Cannes after disaster screener
Ryan Reynolds was booed after a disastrous screening of his movie The Captive during the film's premiere in Cannes, and didn't even show up for the after-party.
After an unsuccessful screening of his latest movie The Captive, Ryan Reynolds was greeted by a chorus of boos from the audience at the Cannes Film Festival.
The actor's new film also received less than stellar reviews from Variety magazine, who called the movie "a ludicrous abduction thriller that finds a once-great filmmaker slipping into previously unentered realms of self-parody." The reviewer reiterated the Cannes booing to amplify his opinion of Reynolds' work.
While Reynolds and his wife Blake Lively looked stunning at the film festival's red carpet, the pair opted to skip his film's after-party due to the negative reception it received. Instead, the actor and the Gossip Girl alum decided to go for a "low-key late-night snack," an Us Weekly insider said.
The couple was seen at the terrace restaurant of the Hotel Martinez at about 1:00 a.m. where Reynolds "definitely seemed a little on edge." The source added that they weren't surprised if he skipped out on his own party because "the film is getting terrible reviews."
As Reynolds ate his late-night dinner with his wife he "seemed preoccupied on his cell phone," although he was still being very affectionate with Lively all the same. The actress tried cheering her husband up several times as they quietly ate their meal.
"[Lively] rubbed his arm like she was consoling him and kept whispering in his ear," the Us insider added. "At one point, Ryan smiled... and leaned in to her for a kiss on the lips."
