Jessica Simpson claims to know a thing or two about what women want to wear, and there’s roughly a billion dollars ready to back her up.
Over the years, we’ve seen Jessica Simpson’s weight fluctuate quite a bit. The girl we first came to know as a thin teenage pop star grew up and gave birth to daughter Maxwell, then did an impressive job of slimming down. Not long afterward, she got pregnant with son Ace and then shed the baby weight once more.
It’s this been there, done that experience Simpson, estimated to be worth $150 million, credits for making her clothing line a smashing success.
“I have been every size on the planet and I understand women,” the beauty who isn’t afraid to go without makeup explained to Forbes. “And I just know how to dress them. I know there’s all different kinds. There’s life in the whole world beyond LA and New York. I understand Middle America and their mindset.”
It’s working, to say the least. The Jessica Simpson Collection rakes in about $1 billion a year at retail, while Forbes calculates her personal take of that loot is “tens of millions” annually.
If she’s ever puzzled by whether or not a piece is right, Simpson puts it to the family test. The proud mom of two, who’ll soon be expanding with a home goods line and then a baby line, explained, “When I’m in approval or inspiration meetings, I think of what I want my Nana to wear and what my 2-year-old daughter Maxwell would look adorable in.”
“My business is the heart of who I am,” she added. “I want to make every woman feel confident in what they’re wearing. I do feel like we’re very fashion-forward, but we also listen to the consumer.”
