VIDEO: Nick Cannon laughs at Mariah Carey divorce rumors
Nick Cannon thinks rumors that his marriage has soured are funny.
In a recent interview with Parade.com, Cannon called speculation that he and the songstress are on the brink of divorce "humorous" and questioned the integrity of the news outlets reporting the stories about his relationship. "You kind of have to ignore it because every week it's something different, and if you paid attention to it, it actually would really start affecting you," he said of the swirling gossip. "There's no merit or truth to it. It's kind of humorous really. It couldn't be further off from the truth and it really affects the credibility of the so-called newspapers."
Rumors that there was trouble in paradise started circulating in December of last year, when Carey made a comment in an interview that Cannon wasn't around as much as he needed to be. "I had preeclampsia, I had gestational diabetes, a really difficult pregnancy, and I was alone most of the time," the singer said to Andy Cohen when he asked her if she planned on having more children on his show, Watch What Happens Live. Carey also dropped some hints that the couple was leading bicoastal, separate lives, and last week, the internet ran wild with stories that the two were, in fact, divorcing because Carey had gotten sick of her husband's publicity stunt hijinks.
There's also the celebrity sex list that Cannon rattled off in a March interview on radio station, Power 106, which includes Christina Milian, Nicole Scherzinger, Selita Ebanks and Kim Kardashian. "It's LA! That's the whole purpose! You have sex with actors, singers, models," he said in the interview. That couldn't have gone over too well. He also let it slip that Carey made him wait until they were married to have sex.
Still, evidence that supports the comedian's story does exist. Just last year, the couple renewed their vows in a ceremony at Disneyland and Cannon gushed about celebrating his sixth wedding anniversary as well as the birthday of their twins earlier this month. "We definitely had a good time," he said to Parade. "The first part of the day, we threw a birthday for them and their friends at their school, and then after that, once we tired all of the kids out, we had a nice romantic rooftop evening and kind of re-enacted some of our wedding and engagement rituals that we do every year."
