Miley Cyrus vs. Justin Bieber: Who's had the most controversial year so far?
Some young adults really take that whole "I'm young, I can get away with it" thing a little far, don't they? And when we say some young adults, we mean Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber. These two act like they left the nest way before they mastered flying. Here's a look at their unsavory antics in 2014 thus far.
Miley Cyrus: We would never call a celebrity a social media whore (out loud), but some celebrities, who shall remain nameless, have a reputation for abusing Instagram. Now, back to the topic of Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber: In March, when Cyrus' Bangerz tour was in full swing, she was lighting up Instagram with images of her on the stage that were mostly tongue and a**. They were just, what's the word? Oh, yeah — disgusting.
Justin Bieber: The Biebs, who refuses to take a history class, posed in front of the Yasukuni Shrine and posted the image on Instagram with the quote, "Thank you for your blessings." Evidently, Bieber (and those in his entourage) didn't know that controversial landmark honors the memory of Japan's war dead during World War II, including former imperial army leaders who committed unspeakable acts of violence across the Pacific and Asia. After the backlash, Beiber took the photo down and apologized.
Miley Cyrus: During her Bangerz tour, Cyrus had to cancel several dates mid-April when she suffered an "allergic reaction to antibiotics." (Yes, we were born yesterday, and we do believe that a celebrity who publicly sings and brags about doing drugs suffered an allergic reaction to an over-the-counter drug which left her hospitalized.)
Justin Bieber: JB hasn't skipped any performances, but he did opt out of a court appearance on April 14, leaving his attorney to represent him so he could attend a surprise performance at Coachella. It's nice to see a young man who has his priorities straight.
Miley Cyrus: Obsessed Cyrus fan, Tucker Salvesen, snuck into Cyrus' dressing room in early March and posted pictures of it on Twitter. (If Salvesen represents the level of intelligence of Cyrus' followers, suddenly her enormous fan base makes sense.) So, while Cyrus hasn't been arrested in 2014, one of her creepy stalkers has.
Justin Bieber: Bieber kicked off 2014 with a DUI arrest in Miami. He pleaded not guilty, even though toxicology reports revealed he was trippin' on pot and Xanax. Right, because that kind of incriminating evidence only affects other people.
Miley Cyrus: Here is where things get really fun. It seems that average Joes aren't the only ones annoyed by the attention-getting stunts of these two. Both of these I-do-what-I-want celebs have their share of celebrity haters. On April 5, at the Women in the World Summit, Rashida Jones backed up her criticism of Miley Cyrus by asking pop tarts to put their lady bits away. Katy Perry also has no love for Cyrus. When the Bangerz singer tried to play tongue hockey with her, Perry wasn't interested. The "Dark Horse" diva said, "That tongue is infamous, I don't know where it's been." Preach, sister.
Justin Bieber: This is one category where Bieber may inch out ahead. Jon Hamm told BuzzFeed in April that Bieber has no life skills and referred to Bieber as a "s***head" in his rant. Seth Rogen joined the "I Hate Bieber" club in March when he told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, "Justin Bieber is a piece of s***. He's obnoxious, he's ungrateful, he's insincere."
Miley Cyrus: In February, rumors swirled that Jared Leto and Cyrus were "hooking up." About the same time, Cyrus openly flirted with Olympian, Gus Kenworthy, when he posted pictures of puppies he was adopting from Russia. In early April, an excerpt from Cyrus' interview with Elle's "Women in Music" issue surfaced, revealing that Cyrus was fine with being single. Later that same month, rumors spread that Cyrus had hooked up with Bieber's dad, Jeremy Bieber. Does that make Cyrus a senior Belieber?
Justin Bieber: We haven't heard much about Chantel Jeffries, the gal pal who was with Bieber when he got arrested in January. We did, however, spend much of March and April hearing about Bieber and his former love, Selena Gomez, hanging out together. In late April, Gomez took the dramatic step of unfollowing Bieber on Instagram. You read that correctly, folks. The gloves are off. You just don't come back from something like that.
