Flowers in the Attic sequel to premiere May 26
Following Lifetime's successful film remake of the V.C. Andrews novel Flowers in the Attic, the network announced the sequel Petals on the Wind will air this summer.
After Lifetime's movie remake of the bestselling V.C. Andrews novel Flowers in the Attic was a huge success this past January, the network is quickly moving forward on the sequel Petals on the Wind, which will premiere May 26.
WARNING: Flowers in the Attic spoilers below. Do not continue reading unless you want to know some of the major plot points from the first film.
Flowers in the Attic is the controversial story of four children who are hidden in an attic by their ruthless, cruel grandmother following the death of their father. The children grow and come of age in the attic before plotting their escape at the end of the story.
Lifetime's version of Petals on the Wind will pick up 10 years after Cathy, Chris and Carrie escaped from Foxworth Hall, according to Entertainment Weekly. The young adults will head to Florida in an attempt to find a life for themselves away from their grandmother and the sad past they left behind.
Heather Graham and Ellen Burstyn will reprise their roles as the children's mother and grandmother, respectively.
There are four books in the Dollanganger children series from Andrews. No word yet if Lifetime plans to see the other two books made into movies on the network, but we think the odds are high if Petals on the Wind does as well as Flowers in the Attic.
In the first photos from the film, which can be seen on Entertainment Weekly, the three stars pose in their retro glam style. Another image of Cathy and her lover in the film, Julian, show the couple in a hauntingly beautiful ballet pose.
