Hey, John Travolta, who is Adele Dazeem?

What the heck happened to John Travolta at the Oscars? Was he nervous or did he just forget Idina Menzel’s name?

Many Broadway fans were a bit confused while watching the Oscars’ broadcast last night when John Travolta introduced singer Idina Menzel as “Adele Dazeem.” Who?

Menzel is known to theater fans as Elphaba in the Tony Award-winning musical Wicked, while Glee fans know her as Rachel Berry’s mother. The 42-year-old star is also currently separated from husband Taye Diggs.

The Enchanted actress was at the Academy Awards to perform the Oscar-winning song “Let It Go” from the box-office Disney hit, Frozen. The song has inspired thousands of YouTube renditions by little girls who have been inspired by the animated film’s character, Elsa.

The second Travolta uttered the strange name, the internet went crazy with the star’s interpretation of Menzel’s name. Parody accounts of the odd moniker popped up on Twitter within minutes, and Slate online magazine came up with an “Adele Dazeem Name Generator” to “Travoltify your own name.”

E! News did confirm that the star was at the rehearsal for the show on Saturday and did not have any trouble with her name.

A source said, “He knew how to say her name. No one knows what happened. Maybe nerves just got the best of him.”

Perhaps it was nerves or the age-old excuse about forgetting your glasses at home. It’s hard to read the teleprompter from across a crowded theater.

Menzel has yet to comment on her new name.
