On Sunday, Salma Hayek's younger brother Sami Hayek was involved in a fatal car crash after he allegedly lost control of his 2006 Ford GT sports car on Sunset Boulevard in Bel Air, California, and slammed into a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the Los Angeles Police Department reported that Sami lost control of his vehicle and was headed the wrong way into oncoming traffic when he collided with the pickup truck at 4:20 p.m. local time.
Sami was then rushed to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center after the accident with broken ribs and facial lacerations that were sustained during the impact. The 20-year-old driver of the truck broke a foot.
Luckily, the From Dusk Till Dawn actress' brother is expected to make a full recovery, although his passenger sadly was not quite as fortunate.
The identity of Sami's passenger still has not been confirmed, but he sadly passed away during the collision and police are said to be trying to contact his relatives. The only information available on the victim at this time is that he was a 43-year-old native of Mexico.
According to the Daily Mail, Sami runs his own design studio in Los Angeles, California, but he originally studied business abroad in Florence before having a change of heart. He left the corporate world for a career that was more creative and has reportedly designed furniture for acting great Brad Pitt.
Our thoughts are with the Hayek family and the family of the victim during this sad time.
