Former Nickelodeon star Drake Bell files for bankruptcy
Another former child star has hit a stumbling block in adulthood. Drake Bell has filed for bankruptcy and he owes a pretty penny.
It isn't easy growing into adulthood after having tremendous success as a child star. Just ask former Nickelodeon star Drake Bell, who filed for bankruptcy this week. According to People, the Drake & Josh actor owes $1.597 million.
The court papers obtained by the entertainment magazine show that the 26-year-old star only makes $2,820 a month while his expenses top $18,771. His income has also drastically changed. While he made a healthy $408,000 in 2012, he only made $14,099 in 2013.
His home is worth approximately $1.575 million, but it seems that he owes more on the property than it is currently worth. In addition, TMZ is reporting that he also has a big tax bill.
Bell was one of Nickelodeon's biggest stars as a kid, starring on The Amanda Show with Amanda Bynes from 1999 through 2001. He then moved on to his own show, Drake & Josh, which ran for four years on the kids' network.
His last big gig was a reality stint on ABC's diving show Splash. He made it to the finals along with former Baywatch babe Nicole Eggert and extreme skier Rory Bushfield. Bushfield wound up taking the title.
As for Bell, he does have a few gigs coming up in 2014, including the TV movie A Fairly Odd Summer, the animated feature Jungle Shuffle and the slasher film L.A. Slasher. Let's hope with his latest creative endeavors his financial picture will improve in 2014 and beyond.
