Miley Cyrus & Madonna teaming up for Unplugged
Miley Cyrus has a very special guest planned for her MTV Unplugged special.
Tegan and Sara called it: Miley Cyrus is the new Madonna, and the original Material Girl is giving her stamp of approval with a very special appearance.
Rumor has it that Madge will join Cyrus for a performance on the "Wrecking Ball" singer's upcoming MTV Unplugged special. According to E! News, Madonna was on a Hollywood soundstage with Cyrus rehearsing the collaboration on Tuesday — but there's no word on what they could be singing together.
Don't expect any twerking from either of the controversial stars, though. In a press release from MTV, we've been told to expect a reinvention — another of Madonna's specialties.
"The performance will showcase a more intimate side of Cyrus and feature surprise guests for an unexpected re-invention of the songs that have defined her career, including several from her No. 1, critically-acclaimed album, Bangerz," last week's release said.
"Miley and her fans have always had an intimate and direct connection through her music, personality and no-holds-barred attitude and the Unplugged stage will serve as the perfect platform for her to show viewers what inspires and ignites her music and her passions."
This isn't the first time Madonna has seen the value in teaming up with a younger generation of pop stars. She made out with both Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards and later teamed up with Spears for the hit single "Me Against the Music."
This also isn't the first time Cyrus has shown fans her true musical ability as opposed to using shock value to draw attention to her tunes. In the summer of 2012, the former Disney star recorded the "Backyard Sessions" in which she showcased her voice with the help of a bluegrass band.
Watch Miley Cyrus perform "Jolene"
Here's hoping there's more Dolly Parton and less twerking from Miley Cyrus Unplugged, airing on MTV Wednesday, Jan. 29.
