Did Keira Knightley cause drama on the Jack Ryan set?
We had the chance to chat with the hot, blue-eyed fox about his character, Jack Ryan, and working with British actress Keira Knightley, who he gave rave reviews.
If you haven't read the Tom Clancy spy novels, you may be wondering who exactly is Jack Ryan. The film's star, Chris Pine, gave us a clear picture.
"Jack Ryan isn't Jason Bourne with his all his sexy, Kung Fu tricks, he isn't James Bond in his great suits, Aston Martin and a bevy of beautiful women. He's a man whose virtues lie in a different ballpark. He's selfless in nature," said Pine.
We also wanted to know about his understated style in the film. He said, "There was a big discussion about suits. The costume designer brought in a bunch of really expensive, Ralph Lauren banker-type suits."
But the Star Trek star wouldn't have any of it. He knew exactly what he thought Jack Ryan should look like.
"The image I keep going back to is Harrison Ford in his tweed jacket, his misshapen tie and his Volkswagen Rabbit. That to me was the character. He didn't care about suits, he didn't care about fancy watches, he's got a $10 haircut — he's that kind of guy."
Um, OK. But is that sexy? "It definitely gave him a Men's Warehouse kind of look, but he's that guy on Wall Street, the odd man out."
We were dying to know if Pine had chemistry with the lovely Keira Knightley on set.
"I don’t know if I've ever had more fun with an actress, she couldn't be any more professional. She's younger than I am [and] she's done probably three times more films than I have," he said.
Well, we did the math. According to the IMDb, Pine has been in 23 films and Knightley 29. Clearly, Pine really admires Knightley if he imagined her to have such a huge body of work.
He continued to gush about the brunette actress. "She'd show up, super-smart, friendly, charming, in the moment and then she'd wrap — there was zero drama with Keira Knightley. It was the most lovely, wonderful experience you could ask for." Wow.
About her work ethic, he told us, "She took her job very seriously, so she would ask the right questions. I think what I respond to more often than anything is just intelligence and she's sharp as a tack."
We'd love to see the couple reunite on-screen in the future.
