Who's down for a My Best Friend's Wedding sequel?
Dermot Mulroney played the love interest in 1997's My Best Friend's Wedding. And he recently admitted he's interested in making a sequel.
If you've been following the awards circuit, you may have experienced a little déjà vu. Actors Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney have been hitting the red carpet together to promote their latest film, August: Osage County.
But this isn't their first rodeo together. The pair famously co-starred in the romantic comedy My Best Friend's Wedding. It was a huge hit that cemented Roberts' title as America's Sweetheart. It's hard to believe it's been over 15 years since the film debuted.
My Best Friend's Wedding still holds a special place in fans' hearts, so much so that some are itching for a sequel. According to Variety, Mulroney isn't completely opposed to the idea. "I think everybody wants it," he said. "I want it! Julia and I talked about it recently, and she thought it would be an amazing idea."
Mulroney says the sequel's premise could involve Michael being married to Kimmy (Cameron Diaz) and Julianne (Roberts) returning to win his heart – again. "Wouldn't that be the fun thing to see?" he asked. "I don't know. You tell me. Whatever it is, as far as I'm concerned, it's been in development for 16 years."
While we're waiting on that to come to fruition, you can enjoy their performances in August: Osage County, which features an ensemble cast led by Meryl Streep. It's already getting Oscar buzz and was recently nominated for SAG and Golden Globe awards.
