Matlin is one of the world’s most well-known deaf actresses and an Oscar winner. During her lengthy career she has starred on such shows as The West Wing and The L Word. Most recently she’s co-starred on the ABC Family hit Switched at Birth. During the special episode of Glee, William McKinley High’s glee club will go to the national championship and Matlin will serve as one of the judges for the competition. Matlin first teased the news yesterday with a picture in one of the Glee director’s chairs on-set. She also tweeted a picture with two of the show’s stars, Chord Overstreet and Darren Criss.

Matlin won’t be the first celebrity to guest appear on the show, nor the first one to assume the role of judge. During previous competitions in which New Directions has competed, we’ve seen the likes of Kathy Griffin, Perez Hilton and Lindsay Lohan serving as a judge. It will be interesting to see what Matlin’s unique position can bring to the show, though.

Just a week ago, we also learned that Pitch Perfect‘s super cute Skylar Astin would also guest on the episode. Astin will star as Jean-Baptise, the leader of Throat Explosion which will serve as New Directions’ main competition on the episode. Astin is currently starring on the TBS comedy Ground Floor and is rumored to return to his singing role in the Pitch Perfect sequel. He previously worked with Lea Michele on Broadway in Spring Awakening.
