The first trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar has arrived. It’s his latest sci-fi drama that asks viewers to reach for the stars and beyond.
Christopher Nolan is back in his wheelhouse. After wrapping The Dark Knight Trilogy, the director will return next year with Interstellar. The film features an ensemble cast including Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, Wes Bentley and Casey Affleck.
Paramount has released a teaser trailer which pays special attention to a character played by Matthew McConaughey. But in typical Nolan fashion, the plot is being kept under wraps. Even the trailer avoids any real tell-tale signs of the story.
We do know the film centers on a group of scientists who discover a wormhole. And said wormhole could be the key to conducting expansive time travel. There’s also the possibility of visiting alternate dimensions. This sounds like the makings of an old-fashioned sci-fi film. But instead of playing up its flashy elements, the trailer is very grounded. It’s quiet and earnest.
Interstellar‘s screenplay was co-written by Nolan and his brother Jonathan from a story by Kip Thorne. Unlike Nolan’s Batman films or even Inception, Interstellar won’t be a summer blockbuster. It’s scheduled for a fall release, which means its targeting awards season. With the positive reception of this year’s Gravity, we wouldn’t be surprised if Interstellar achieved the same in 2014.
