Jake Gyllenhaal is taking his latest role in Nightcrawler pretty seriously. Not only has he lost weight, but he was injured on-set on Wednesday.

What's eating Jake Gyllenhaal these days? On Wednesday, it was reported that the actor was sent to a Los Angeles-area hospital after shooting a scene on the film Nightcrawler.

A source told People, "Jake flipped out. His character was looking into a mirror during the scene and punched the mirror in anger and broke it, cutting himself so bad he had to be taken to a hospital."

The good news is that the actor is going to be OK. He only received stitches during his emergency room visit. However, friends are worried about how far Gyllenhaal is taking his current role.

An insider revealed that the Brokeback Mountain star has been "intensely focused" on dropping weight for the film. He has already lost about 20 pounds for the role and he is starting to look gaunt.

This isn't the first time the Oscar nominee has transformed his body. He bulked up with muscle for the Prince of Persia. It's the complete opposite of Nightcrawler which leaves him "always a little bit hungry."

The character must mean a lot to Gyllenhaal because he took the scene very seriously. The rage on set had nothing to do with anything personal going on in his life.

"The scene was emotionally charged and his character was talking into a mirror and he got so into it, he banged his hands against the mirror and it broke and cut him," the source shared. "It was all the scene and not because he was mad about anything else."

Gyllenhaal returned to set after Wednesday's incident.
