Falling for Chris Hardwick @Midnight

Chris Hardwick is using @Midnight to further his attempts at overtaking television. Spoiler alert: It's gonna happen.

Chris Hardwick @Midnight

Chris Hardwick has a new show on Comedy Central called @Midnight and we're pretty much in love.

@Midnight's format is like a mashup of Britain's Mock the Week, Whose Line Is It Anyway? and Tosh.O but infinitely better than all of them. The idea is simple: Hardwick pits three comedians against one another and they compete at who can come up with the funniest comments on the day's internet happenings. There are points accrued and the person with the most "wins the internet." Though, honestly, we're not sure who pays attention to the numbers. We're watching for all the jokes.

Tuesday night's episode was the perfect example of the awesomeness of @Midnight. Hardwick and his trio of comedian guests discussed National Cat Day by playing "Rich Cat, Poor Cat." Hardwick showed a zoomed-in picture of a feline and comedians had to guess if the cat was rich or poor. Rich cats included cats that were photographed with guns and money. Meanwhile, they found one poor cat on CatsWhoLookLikeHitler.com. (Oh, interwebs.) Later, if you stayed up late to troll Twitter on Tuesday night and discovered that #LameComicBookCharacters was trending, you have Hardwick and crew to thank. Our favorite game, however, is "Etsy store or porn title?" Hardwick gives a wildly inappropriate name and guests guess whether it's an unfortunate Etsy store or a porn film.

Of course, the biggest draw to @Midnight is Hardwick. Geeks everywhere know him from his hosting gigs on various post-show talk shows like The Nerdist (which he started as a podcast), Talking Bad and Talking Dead. Simply put: Hardwick is the hottest and funniest geek around. (And by "geek" we are, of course, referring to the definition that includes anyone who obsessively loves something, anything.) Our favorite Hardwick moment: His interview with Buzz Aldrin on The Nerdist. His nerdiness was in full bloom that night and it was incredibly fun to witness.

@Midnight starts at 11:59/10:59c every Monday through Thursday night and, like most things on Comedy Central, re-airs several times throughout the following hours. We're geeking out over it and we hope you will, too.
