Scandal burning question: Are you Team Fitz or Team Jake?
On ABC's Scandal, fixer Olivia Pope can choose between two men. Should she wait for the love of her life or be with someone inexorably connected to her father?
Now that Jake has been returned (somewhat) safe and sound to Olivia, the question on many fans' minds is: Should Olivia be with Fitz or Jake?
Team Fitz: True love
There are many reasons that Olivia should be with Fitz, not the least of which is that they're totally, completely and absolutely in love with each other. In many ways they do seem to be a match made in heaven and if they didn't have obstacles such as his marriage and presidency in the way, they would be happily married and making jam.
One of the things that makes Fitz and Olivia work is that they aren't afraid to stand up to each other. Sometimes they feel like opposites because of the intense arguments they get into, but it's their similarity in personality that makes those confrontations amazing.
The only trouble with Fitz, of course, is that he's stuck in a situation that, until it's over, will never allow him and Liv to be together. He can't get divorced while he's president and he can't give up the presidency because too many people (including Olivia) sacrificed a lot so that he could have that seat and do the work that needs to be done. But just how long should Olivia put her romantic life on hold? Should she wait for a man who says he loves her but always has reasons that he can't be with her?
Team Jake: No strings attached
Just like with Fitz, there are plenty of reasons Olivia should be with Jake. From the moment they met, there was an undeniable spark between them. Olivia may have tried to hide her attraction, even after the two of them slept together, but she can't deny that he saved her life. Some may argue that their relationship started out too strange (he was basically stalking her on orders from the president, after all), but those same arguments could also be made about her relationship with Fitz.
Also like Fitz, there are some issues with Jake that could make a relationship with him difficult, even if Olivia were to give in to her feelings for him. First of all, he worked for her father. Second of all, he's trained as an assassin (thanks to her dad). Beyond that there's also the most recent development: He was put in a hole for weeks and released for reasons neither of them understand yet. Any moment now, Jake could get orders to do some heinous act that would forever change Olivia's mind about him. Should she take a chance with a man who has just as much of a chance of breaking her heart as Fitz?
