TRAILER: Chris Pine's Jack Ryan is a Shadow Recruit

Paramount's finally given us our first look at Chris Pine as Jack Ryan. The Star Trek actor tackles the iconic role in the upcoming film, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.

Jack Ryan has a new face and it belongs to Chris Pine. The actor is the latest in a long line to play the Tom Clancy character. Lucky for us, Paramount's released the first trailer for Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. It's a revival of the long-running franchise which includes The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger and The Sum of All Fears.

As the fifth installment of the series, Shadow Recruit focuses on Ryan's humble beginnings. It's set during 9/11 and follows him through his tour of duty in Afghanistan. His military service leaves emotional scars that are still evident when he starts his career as a CIA analyst.

Ryan stumbles across what he believes to be a financial terrorist plot. He alerts his handler (Kevin Costner) and quickly goes from analyst to spy. While trying to save the country, he inadvertently puts his loved ones at risk — namely, his fiancée Cathy (Keira Knightley).

This trailer premieres at such an ironic time — author Tom Clancy passed away earlier this week. We hope he was able to see an early cut of his character's latest adventure.

Pine takes over the Ryan role from Ben Affleck who played him in Sum of All Fears. His other predecessors include Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford.
