Patrick Stewart walked down the aisle for the third time this weekend, but it was his X-Men co-star who garnered attention for officiating the wedding.
This is the third marriage for the Star Trek: The Next Generation actor, who married singer-songwriter Sunny Ozell. The couple had been dating for five years after they met at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in 2008.
The 73-year-old star confirmed the news via Twitter with a simple statement of “Yes, married,” and a photo with his 37-year-old bride submerged in a pit of rainbow-colored balls.
McKellen also shared his role in the wedding on his Facebook page. The photo included the caption, “I did my part.” The Hobbit actor posed with a black T-shirt that read “Minister” and his official certificate ordaining him as a minister to officiate Stewart’s wedding.
Stewart’s pal let the cat out of the bag about his duties in March on The Jonathan Ross Show. The longtime friends have starred in the X-Men series of films together.
He revealed, “I’m going to marry Patrick. How else do you put that? I’m going to officiate at his wedding.”
McKellen is a veteran at officiating weddings. His first one was “with two guys having a civil partnership.”
According to Us Weekly, the couple are already on their honeymoon in an unnamed location.
Stewart and Ozell do not have any children together, but he does have two children from his previous marriage to Sheila Falconer which ended in 1990. A second marriage to Wendy Neuss ended in 2003.
