Nigel Lythgoe on Simon Cowell's impending fatherhood
Nigel Lythgoe may have worked with Simon Cowell for years on American Idol, but the recent news about Cowell's fatherhood even surprised him.
While many fans were stunned that Simon Cowell was going to be a dad, his close friends were equally surprised at the news. Nigel Lythgoe talked about Cowell's impending fatherhood on Access Hollywood Live on Wednesday.
Host Kit Hoover got straight to the point and asked the So You Think You Can Dance judge about the recent developments in Cowell's personal life.
She asked, "Were you stunned?"
The former American Idol producer dug right in with refreshing honesty.
He revealed, "Yes, I seriously was. I thought he was a confirmed bachelor."
Then, Lythgoe gave his opinion on Cowell's baby mama, Lauren Silverman.
"I don't think he thought this relationship would go anywhere," the Brit said. "It was his best friend's wife. So, I think it came as a surprise to everyone really."
Despite the shock, Lythgoe does have a sense of humor when it comes to the type of father he thinks Cowell will be.
He joked, "He'll probably tell the kid off every day."
Then he pretended to be The X Factor judge talking to his kid, "'You're leaving the house!'"
Billy Bush and Hoover enjoyed the little show from Lythgoe who added that he had the perfect baby gift for the dad, "Nappies just a little too high, little black T-shirts."
It sounds like Cowell's bachelor friends are going to tease him throughout the pregnancy. Let's hope he can handle the ribbing.
