Ellen fave Sophia Grace Brownlee nabs her first movie
She's jumping from the small screen to the big time — Sophia Grace Brownlee has landed her first movie role!
She's a tiny rapper, a singer, a YouTube phenomenon and a favorite on the Ellen DeGeneres Show — and now Sophia Grace Brownlee is taking things to the next level.
The 10-year-old talent has nabbed her first movie role, and it's a doozy! Her uncle tweeted the news Tuesday.
Brownlee will be playing the part of Little Red Riding Hood in an A-list production of Into the Woods, alongside such luminaries as Meryl Streep playing the witch, Johnny Depp as the wolf, Anna Kendrick as Cinderella, Chris Pine as Cinderella's prince, Christine Baranski as Cinderella's stepmother and Emily Blunt as the baker's wife.
The plot of the original stage production includes four main characters who have a wish, the witch who tries to prevent their wishes from coming true, and their journey to happiness, with almost every fairy tale character you've ever loved — or hated — tied together in some way.
Directed by Chicago's Rob Marshall, the live-action Disney production is scheduled for a December 2014 release.
“We talked about the meaning of it and how timely it is still, and about family — that’s always at the core of our lives,” Marshall told The Hollywood Reporter in January 2012, adding that he hopes to feature new songs by Stephen Sondheim in the musical.
