Minka Kelly knows a whole lot about football
Actress Minka Kelly talks about her plans for the upcoming football season and her past experiences with the sport, as well as her upcoming roles in The Butler and Almost Human.
In some parts of the country, people are still experiencing hot summer weather. But thoughts of fall are already sneaking in as the calendar flips closer to the time of year where leaves change and the weather gets cooler.
Perhaps not a lot of people on this site are excited about it, but the coming of fall also means that it's nearly time for football season again. Then again, there are a lot of ladies out there who enjoy the sport, including actress Minka Kelly, who is perhaps best known for her role on the hit series Friday Night Lights.
Kelly recently sat down to chat with Marie Claire magazine about all things football, as well as her upcoming roles.
As it turns out, Kelly got into football thanks to being in a TV show about the sport. "I played a cheerleader on Friday Night Lights, which was a TV series all about high-school football in Texas. It was my first exposure to the sport," she said.
She even played a few times in some all-girl games, but it turned out to be tougher than she thought. "I played in a girls' powderpuff game during the FNL days. I was the quarterback. The ball was snapped to me, and I jammed my finger! I think I'm a pretty tough girl — I like to get down and dirty. But I was like, 'Man, I jammed my finger just catching the ball?' I didn't tell anyone and played through it."
As for her plans during the football season, they're pretty much like anyone else's. "I have a group of friends who always get together at each other's houses on Sundays during football season. We cook, hang out, and watch the game. It's a fun time of year," Kelly said, adding that ribs and wings were her favorite football foods and that she only wears jeans, T-shirts and sneakers to games. "If you wear heels to a game, I envy you, because I don't have that stamina."
Kelly has a couple of great roles coming up, the first as Jackie Kennedy in the film The Butler. Asked about how she felt playing such an iconic character, Kelly said, "Scary, intimidating, humbling! It was an honor."
After that, she can be seen in the new FOX crime drama Almost Human. Asked to talk about the show, Kelly said, "This show is different from anything I've done. J.J. Abrams created such a neat futuristic world. I'm filming in Vancouver, which is more of a hockey town than a football one!"
