Raven-Symoné comes out to the world through Twitter

Raven-Symoné's sexuality has been in question in the past, and the actress said it was none of anyone's business. But in a tweet today, she cleared up any doubt.

It is the age of social media, so it's not surprising that one actress made a life-altering announcement Friday via Twitter.

Raven-Symoné, who first made her way into our heart when she was only 4 years old, ended the rumors concerning her sexual orientation. She has long kept her romantic life private.

While Symoné didn't say the words, one can assume she was talking about the Supreme Court's recent decision to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act and the numerous states that have recently decided to allow same-sex marriage.

Back in May 2012, Symoné skirted the issue when she tweeted about her privacy, starting rumors she might be lesbian.

"My sexual orientation is mine, and the person I'm datings to know. I'm not one for a public display of my life," she said.

The 27-year-old actress may be best remembered as the youngest daughter on The Cosby Show, a part she played from 1989 to 1992. She has also been seen on Hangin' With Mr. Cooper and Kim Possible, and she had her own show, That's So Raven, from 2003 to 2007.

"I am very happy that gay marriage is opening up around the country and is being accepted," the actress said through her representatives Friday, after sending the tweet. "I was excited to hear today that more states legalized gay marriage. I, however am not currently getting married, but it is great to know I can now, should I wish to."

Symoné's representatives clarified by saying the actress is excited about the possibilities.

"Raven is not getting married," they said. "She was just supporting the fact that she heard on NPR that more states legalized gay marriage today."
