Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger to marry on Canada Day
Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger shocked all their fans when they announced their engagement in 2012. It looks like they'll finally make it official, while also paying tribute to their country.
Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger had the media, and their fans, thinking they were married over the weekend. And just as everyone figured out the truth, it looks like the couple will finally tie the knot.
The confusion came because Kroeger and Lavigne held a three-day "wedding celebration" in the south of France, according to MTV, which included a rehearsal dinner Saturday night in Cannes.
"[Avril] picked Cannes because she's spent significant time in Paris in the past few years and summered in places like St. Tropez," a source reportedly told E! News. "She's very immersed in French food, ambiance and culture. It's her favorite place to be."
The date chosen for the wedding day is incredibly symbolic for the couple, since July 1 is celebrated as Canada Day in the pair’s home country.
"He's Canadian, and I'm Canadian, and we have a lot in common," Lavigne recently told Chelsea Handler about the relationship.
Lavigne also opened up about the wedding planning back in June, and said it will be a big event.
"I've been doing it, I'm the girl," she said, according to MTV. "I'm the one who has the crazy vision and he's letting me be me. It's a lot and I just want to make sure I really enjoy this amazing time. I want all the guests who come to have this once-in-a-lifetime experience and I want everyone to say, 'Wow!' and for it to be special for everyone, not just us."
The couple has also written a new song together for the event, but had to postpone its release date to be able to debut it at their wedding.
The marriage will be Chad Kroeger’s first, but Lavigne’s second. She was married to Sum 41 lead singer Deryck Whibley in 2006, but divorced him three years later. Lavigne and the Nickelback front man met while working on a song together for Lavigne’s album in early 2012.
