Is there trouble in paradise? Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man sequel is undergoing a casting shakeup. Sarah Gadon is in, while Shailene Woodley may be out.

It's been a tumultuous week for Shailene Woodley. The actress is working on a new film called Divergent, but another project is getting all the attention.

Woodley recently shot scenes for next year's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. She was cast as Mary Jane Watson and expected to briefly appear in the sequel. Now, several reports claim that's not the case.

First, it was confirmed that the character would not appear in the movie. The director wanted to focus on the Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) and Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) story, therefore Mary Jane got pushed to the third film. In an interview with EW, Woodley said she was disappointed but understands the decision.

"Of course I’m bummed," she said. "But I am a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason. MJ only appeared in a few scenes, and I wouldn’t trade the experience of working with Andrew and Emma for three days on set for the world. Based on the proposed plot, I completely understand the need for holding off on introducing MJ until the next film."

Now it seems as if Woodley won't be in the movie at all. ETCanada tweeted that actress Sarah Gadon has joined The Amazing Spider-Man franchise. This caused speculation that she might be a replacement for Woodley. Apparently, the Golden Globe-nominated actress is extremely busy and The Hollywood Reporter claims she's not likely to return.

At first glance, Gadon looks more like another Spider-Man vixen than Mary Jane. She embodies the character Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat, who's yet to be introduced in the film series. Yet there's already been speculation that that role has gone to co-star Felicity Jones.

There are so many actresses, but not enough roles! We hope Woodley sticks around. She's such a great young talent.
