Friday's Fashion Fails: Krysten Ritter & Liv Tyler
Oops... even celebrities get it wrong sometimes! We're telling you why Krysten Ritter and Liv Tyler's fashions fell short in our weekly feature. Learn from the stars' sartorial slip ups!
Happy 31st birthday, Krysten Ritter! The actress attended a dominatrix convention birthday party at The Bank nightclub in Vegas, and it looks like the birthday girl was inspired by Anne Hathaway's S&M style last week in this Hervé Léger by Max Azria dress. Hervé Léger made the bandage dress famous, but this is more like the bondage dress.
Don't get us wrong — leather dresses are very in style this season — but there's a right and wrong way to wear this edgy material. When in doubt, keep it chic and simple. Instead, this dress has patterns, piping, a belt, a harness and long sleeves to boot. Speaking of boots, Krysten finished her look with a pair of Rachel Zoe ankle booties.
We actually think this look could be salvaged if she lost the sleeves and choker harness neckline that simply screams, "Take me to the torture chamber!" But all of this together is just too much.
The final verdict? We're cracking our virtual whip at Krysten for this painful ensemble. When rocking a leather look, try this strapless and sexy version from Zara.
Let's start with the positives when it comes to Liv Tyler's look she chose for An Intimate Night of Jazz in NYC. We think the black silk dress she's wearing has potential. But why did the designer have to add an oversized vest to the gown?
Liv, who's currently the face of Givenchy, is a tall, statuesque girl, but you can't tell under all of the fabric she's drowning in. As we mentioned, the baggy vest isn't adding anything to her ensemble. And with the long train and hemline of this gown, we simply can't even see what shoes she's wearing.
The final verdict? If you're going to accessorize a dress with a vest, we'd suggest a fitted one with a pop of color. We also think a bright, tailored blazer would have looked great with this getup instead. This isn't our favorite look of Liv's, but her hair and makeup are pretty.
