The summer sun is blazing hot and your relationship should be too! Whether you’re involved with someone new or want to keep the passion alive with your longtime partner, these six romantic summer hot spots are sure to heat things up.
Lake Como, Italy
Lake Como in the northern Italian Lakes District is pure Italian romance. The lake itself is surrounded by picturesque resort villages and villas and dotted with silent ferries making their daily passage between Bellagio and the other resort towns dotting the Y-shaped lake. Jean Fawcett of travel agency Abercrombie & Kent recommends booking a lake view room at the Villa d’Este or Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni to enjoy gorgeous views and luxurious accommodations in one of the world’s most romantic settings.
Bora Bora, Tahiti
With its sultry tropical breeze, swaying palms and thatched-roof bungalows built right on top of the crystal blue waters, this island paradise is pure summer romance. If you ever leave your bungalow, you and your lover might want to kayak out into the blue to enjoy the tranquil solitude, or rent a moped to zip around the island. Take a sunset catamaran ride then head back, hand-in hand, to your hibiscus-strewn lair.
Chichen Itza, Mexico
Abercrombie & Kent’s Jean Fawcett recommends visiting the magical city of Izamal to explore the mysterious Yellow City and go for a ride in a horse-drawn carriage. She recommends staying at the Mayaland Lodge, which sits on 100 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens and boasts its own entrance to the Mayan temples. “The bungalows immerse you in the jungle environment and surround you with the ancient Yucatan-Mayan experience,” says Fawcett. The next morning, be among the first visitors to enter the famed archaeological site of Chichen Itza — visiting the impressive structures before the crowds arrive.
Napa Valley, CA
If you and your sweetheart are foodies with an appreciation of fine wine, visit the wine country of Napa Valley in Northern California. Here, you’ll find romantic inns and boutique resorts like Auberge du Soleil, where you’ll have to remind yourself you’re not staying on the French Riviera. Take a break from wine tasting to experience a hot air balloon ride or a luxurious spa treatment for two.
The resort town of Wailea, located on the Hawaiian island of Maui is consistently ranked among the most romantic spots in all of Hawaii. Enjoy luxurious accommodations at the Grand Wailea Resort, and pamper yourself with a visit to the resort’s top rated Spa Grande. Here, you and your partner can enjoy a two-hour couples hydrotherapy and massage treatment, followed by dinner on the thatched roof floating restaurant, Humuhumunukunukuapua, with gorgeous Pacific sunset views.
Summer, fall, winter, spring… whatever the season, Paris is the ultimate romantic destination. Visit in July to experience the City of Lights before the Parisians flee for their summer homes. Enjoy afternoons strolling hand-in-hand along the Seine and having a “picnique” lunch in the Jardin du Luxembourg. Drink in the Parisian street scene with a cafe au lait at a sidewalk cafe before walking the winding streets to the Eiffel Tower for a breathtaking view of Paris.
