H&M launching fab accessories collection with Anna Dello Russo
Exciting news, Vogue fans! Iconic Vogue Japan fashion director Anna Dello Russo has designed a line of show-stopping accessories for H&M just in time for fall 2012.
"I am excited by this collaboration: This is the first time H&M involves a Fashion Director in a special project. This is the sign of an important evolution in fashion, and I am both thrilled and humbled to be the one chosen to lead it. I wanted to create precious accessories that are impossible to find," Anna Dello Russo said in a statement. "As a stylist, I know accessorization is essential: It is the personal touch to any outfit. With these pieces everybody can have fun, turning an ordinary day into a fantastic fashion day."
Italian-born Dello Russo is known for her flamboyant looks and intense fashion obsession — she once said that she owns over 4,000 pairs of shoes. Starting Oct. 4, fans can snap up Dello Russo's jewelry, sunglasses, shoes and bags at H&M's locations around the world. And — unlike fashions featured in Vogue — you can actually afford to buy these accessories.
“It’s been extremely exciting to involve Anna Dello Russo in this project, something completely different from what we have done before. Anna has a fantastic eye and a strong taste, apart from being a veritable fashion icon. She produced an extravagant range of accessories that will get H&M customers and everyone in love with fashion excited. The collection is a celebration of excess, fantasy and decoration,” said Margareta van den Bosch, Creative Advisor at H&M.
Anna Dello Russo: "The Lady Gaga of Fashion Week"
Dello Russo has gained a reputation over the years as a fashion director who is actually interested in what the people are wearing on the street. Her signature catchphrase is "I don't want to be cool, I want to be in fashion" — so, it's natural that she appreciates the "anything goes" nature of street fashion. She's often featured on the pages of fashion blogs like The Sartorialist.
"I really get into the mood. I completely understand this was a new media power starting," she told U.K. newspaper The Guardian in a 2010 profile. She thinks that bloggers tell the truth about fashion, where magazine editors don't. "In magazine, I say, I was in ivory tower. I didn't have time to listen [to readers]. You don't feel the people, you get list of number [circulation figures, I presume] but… and feedback come one month later. Internet is immediate! Make contact, I feel my audience! I understand what they like! They make a break in the rules! They talk to you!"
If anything, Dello Russo's accessories collection for H&M is the culmination of a lifelong obsession with fashion, and we'll be first in line to check it out!
