Trend alert: Red dresses invade the Emmys red carpet

As we watched the pre-Emmy TV specials last night, we couldn’t help but notice that many celebs took the concept of a red carpet quite seriously. One after another, today’s hottest celebs rocked the red carpet in a variety of sultry red hues. Here are some of our favorites.

Nina dobrev

The Vampire Diaries star was breathtakingly gorgeous in her red strapless mermaid-style Donna Karan gown last night. Everything from the dress to her makeup and hair was flawless, and Dobrev looked both age-appropriate and stunning.

Sometimes, less is more, and last night, the Glee star played it all correctly. Michele's red Marchesa dress enhanced her toned physique, and gave little pops of detail in all the right places: a cowl-neck back left the crowd watching, and prominent shoulders gave the otherwise simple front a bit of attitude.

kate winslet

Winslet is already a red carpet pro, and last night she scored on multiple levels. The Mildred Pierce star took home an Emmy for Outstanding Leading Actress in a Mini-series or Movie and turned plenty of heads with her curve-hugging red Elie Saab dress.

giuliana rancic

E! News' favorite red carpet commentator was as on-trend as the stars she interviewed at the Emmys. The silhouette of Rancic's red strapless Roberto Cavalli gown flattered her figure and the flowing material at the bottom of the gown added delicate detail.

kerry washington

Washington put a twist on the red trend by adding a lot of texture to her Zuhair Murad gown. The shiny bodice transformed into a sheer flowing train and Washington paired the look with a matching red clutch.
