8 Ways to break out of a style rut
Moms often have so much more to worry about than their clothes. Getting the kids to school, grocery shopping, cooking dinner, soccer practice...the list goes on and on. If you have fallen into a style rut, break out with these simple beauty and fashion tips.
Wear a new article of clothing every week
This doesn't mean you have to go shopping. Take inventory of your closet and jewelry box. Most women have at least 30 items of clothing, jewelry, accessories or shoes that aren't in their regular rotation.
Get into hair accessories
And we don't mean scrunchies! Hair accessories -- headbands, scarves, barrettes and clips -- are hot right now. Look for different ways to dress up your hair with floral embellishments, vibrant colors and crystal accents.
Stop wearing t-shirts
Unless you are lounging around the house, don't wear tees (unless they are cool graphic t-shirts, of course). Substitute cute camis, colorful tanks and tribal-inspired tunics for your ordinary tees.
We all get in the habit of wearing black and gray too often. Sure, dark shades are slimming, but these colors can also be so drab. This summer, get into color -- even at the office. Add an orange blazer or a polka dot print skirt to your workday wardrobe. On the weekend, both mini and maxi dresses in citrus colors are fun options.
Change your handbag
Many of us have dozens of handbags, but only one that we carry regularly. Switch your handbag to one that you haven't used in a while, or splurge on a fun summer bag. Pick a handbag that can work for the office and weekend wear -- a medium sized tote or satchel that is big enough to hold all your essentials.
Put on some lipstick
If you have gotten into the no-makeup habit, glam up with a little lipstick. Next time you are leaving the house, even if just to go to the corner store, put on a little lipstick. Check out some of our favorite plum lipsticks -- one of the hottest colors of the year.
Pick up a pair of wedges
Wedges are trendy and cool. They provide a little height, while being comfortable too. We love some of the nautical wedges that are out right now, but floral espadrilles and other wedge sandals are also cute choices.
Change your 'do
Look in the mirror. How long have you been wearing your hair the same way? Years? Decades? Give yourself a fresh look for summer by changing your hairstyle or trying a new color.
