Girlie fashions are in, white is the new black, dresses are hotter than ever, and this season’s looks call for ultra-feminine patterns and styles. Shopping has never been more fun as we rev up for the coolest in hot summer styles yet!
All dressed up, everywhere to go
“One thing for sure that is hot this spring and summer is dresses. They are coming in a range of colors from primaries to soft pastels,” says Rachel Fauman (www.ensemble-consulting.com), a personal shopper in San Francisco. “They are in all different shapes and styles and can be worn by anyone whether its over pants, with leggings, flats, or flip flops you can do them your way.”
“The shirt dress, the t-shirt dress, the wrap dress… this spring, it’s all about the dress,” says Aubrey Cichelli, a representative of Shade Clothing (www.shadeclothing.com). “No longer exclusively for church or eveningwear, be sure to incorporate this comfortable and stylish trend into your everyday wardrobe. Whatever the location — lunch with the girls, an afternoon at the zoo, or the dreaded family reunion — the dress is this season’s must-have item.”
“This is the season of the dress!” Sara Rogers affirms. Choose from empire waists, wrap style, shirt dresses, cap sleeves, puffy sleeves, 3/4-length sleeves, classic sheath, trapeze, drop waist, mid-thigh length to hovering around the knee to name a few. I have noticed a few maxi styles; however they are out numbered by the leggy variety. This season offers styles from girly to sophisticated, casual to dressy.
“Spring and summer are my favorite seasons. I see whites as well as bold colors being popular for this year. I love all the mini dresses and when worn with tights and flats — it becomes cute with a sexy twist,” says designer Amy Tan (www.amytangerine.com).
You have so many great options out there if you want to get all “dressed” up. For one, Nomadic Traders (www.nomatictraders.com) is known for their great fit and fabrics, and their goods are handmade — many as part of cottage industries in Bali and Bolivia. The flattering fit of the cut should work for many figure types.
Our absolute favorite dress of the season, though, comes from lingerie giant Fredericks of Hollywood (www.fredericks.com). Their green-plaid sundress with a patent leather belt is the quintessential flirty look to take you from an afternoon in the sun to a night under the stars.
Dresses are a wonderful option to have in your wardrobe, and most women will agree: It really comes in handy to have an item of clothing that you don’t have to think about which top or bottom goes with it. For the most part, with a dress, you just put it on and go, which makes it perfect for those days when you hit the snooze button on your alarm one too many times!
