The new makeup bag

The makeup bag has evolved. Ten years ago, it was all about the colour and, although this is still important, some experts would argue now it’s about “the glow.” As a result, the beauty essentials have changed and cosmetic and skin care companies are continually releasing new products which promise to show your skin in the best possible light. So what should you have in your new makeup bag?

Makeup bag

Primer

It’s no surprise that a flawless finish comes with a good base. You can achieve that perfect canvas with primer. Foundation streaks, noticeable pores and redness can all be eliminated by using primer. Apply moisturiser, followed by primer. It will act as a barrier between your skin and the makeup, making it last longer by stopping it sliding off your face. In fact ModelCo claims its skin primer will keep makeup in place for 10 hours! It’s also a fabulous filler for fine lines and facial scars as primer fills in small crevices and levels the skin. You can also buy primers with an SPF, which is fabulous as it eliminates another step in your makeup process! Are you prime to prime? Here’s a few of our favourites:

ModelCo Face Base Skin Primer is $38
Laura Mercier Foundation Primer from Adore Beauty is $45
Napolean Perdis Auto Pilot Pre-Foundation Primer is $55

BB Cream

The BB or “Blemish Balm” Cream is a relatively new phenomenon, crossing the bridge between skin care and makeup. The craze started in Asia and has rapidly spread across the globe with more cosmetic and skin care companies rapidly jumping on board. The BB Cream is a multi-tasker aiming to moisturise, tint, even out and protect your skin from the sun. It’s also reputed to improve skin tone over time! We like:

Garnier Miracle Skin Perfecter BB Cream at only $13.99!
Dior Hydra Life BB Cream is at the luxe end at $85
Erborian BB Crème au Giseng ($59) at Adore Beauty and Myer

Illuminator

If you’re ready to get your glow on, apply illuminator or bronzer. This will lift your matte skin and give you that dewy complexion you’re after. If applied correctly (YouTube it), illuminator will bring out your cheekbones and give you goddess-like glow! Whether you buy a cream, powder or liquid is up to you. Why don’t you take a look at:
