Eat a good variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. Salmon and other foods rich in Omega 3 have a powerful influence on the skin’s appearance. When it comes to your skin, you really are what you eat! Foods with high sugar content are inflammatory to the skin, but green tea is an anti-inflammatory proven to heal skin. Drink plenty of water to flush toxins out of your system — a minimum of eight 250 millilitre glasses daily is recommended for women.
Use lemons both inside and out! Drink lemon juice with water to start your day — it’s one way to support healthy liver function and translates into healthier skin. Clean and moisturise
Sometimes simple routines work the best! Sea salt is an ideal skin cleanser and exfoliant that you can use daily. Dissolve it in water and gently massage the skin, avoiding any pimples or active inflammations. Daily use will even out the skin tone, clear up blackheads and whiteheads and eliminate most future breakouts. Rinse off with warm water.
Aloe Vera speeds up healing on any scabs, scars or burns. This natural anti-inflammatory also reduces redness and skin irritations. Fresh aloe vera is wonderful and can be grown in a pot, but the gels are also very effective.
Steaming the face once a week releases debris that can lodge in pores, and softens the skin for more effective cleansing. All you need is a pot of hot water and a towel to cover your head. Be cautious to avoid burns. You can infuse the water with essential oils while steaming: chamomile for oily and acne-prone skin, lemon or geranium for combination skin types, and patchouli or lavender for dry skin. Moisturise your skin following cleansing and a water-based moisturiser feels lighter than an oil-base product. Try several and see how your skin reacts before deciding which product best suits you.
Fade age spots with a dab of castor oil applied daily with a cotton swab. Eggs make a good skin conditioner — use the white for normal and oily skin and the yolk for drier complexions. For an instant glow, rub a cut raw tomato with the pulp oozing out onto your skin, then wash off. Use honey mixed with avocado, apple cider vinegar or lemon juice as a facial mask to fight wrinkles. This mask can be applied several times a week.
