Forget about trying to track down the perfect pair of big furry boots! Thanks to Amina Munster at Exsect Leather Co., you can pull this gorgeous pair of faux fox fur boot covers over your current pair of comfy boots! Amina strives to create products that are both functional and fashionable, and all the items in her shop are 100 per cent her own designs.

SheKnows Canada: What is the one winter fashion item you cannot be without?

Amina Munster: Fantastically beautiful fingerless gloves handcrafted by Mare Shop on Etsy. I am able to type on a keyboard [or] iPad, take pictures and sew, without ever taking these warm lovelies off. I own the teal-black-grey cascade and recently purchased the grey-black pair. I must admit that I was tempted to purchase the maroon cascade, as I’m sure they must be [ingenious] at concealing wine spillage stains.

SK: What’s the best fashion tip you’ve ever heard or come up with yourself?

AM: Always have an extra pair of socks. OK, OK, not a fashion tip per se. But that is quite possibly the most useful tip pertaining to items you wear on your body. I always have an extra pair of socks. And if you need them, I’ll gladly give them to you and replace them. If your feet get cold, you risk getting sick, and that is no fun for any one.

Warm, elegant sweater

Warm, elegant sweater | Sheknows.ca

This lovely sweater made by Kimberly Poole of Kimberly Poole Designs is the perfect fit for those days when you want to be warm and cozy without losing out on style. It can be made in your choice of colour, and Kimberly is currently working with another Ontario designer who specializes in dying and spinning fibres, so there will soon be more gorgeous colours to choose from.

SheKnows Canada: What is the one winter fashion item you cannot be without?

Kimberly Poole: Honestly, I love a nice, thick, chunky cowl. It’s something that is easy to wear and can be dressed up or down into almost any winter wardrobe. I personally prefer neutral tones that can complement any outfit. I am loving charcoal greys right now for my cowls and accenting them with natural wooden buttons.

SK: What’s the best fashion tip you’ve ever heard or come up with yourself?

KP: With the right accessory, you can feel on top of the world. Wearing something that makes you happy can make your whole day that much brighter and give you the confidence you need to tackle almost anything. I love how one accessory can make a huge impact on your wardrobe. A nice chain scarf or a delicate thread ring can make the perfect statement piece and start wonderful conversations.

Bright beanie toque

Bright beanie tuque | Sheknows.ca

This super-cute beanie toque made by Rebecca Bessette at Hooked Wear is the perfect cozy and classic way to top off your look in the cold winter months. Bessette’s shop offers all kinds of hats to choose from, and you know it’s going to look good, because no hat goes up for sale until it has been approved by her three teenage daughters! Plus, every piece is made by hand in house.

SheKnows Canada: What is the one winter fashion item you cannot be without?

Rebecca Bessette: It is difficult to decide what one item I would willingly be without. A nice chunky cowl scarf is a definite, but I would have to pick a roomy slouch toque. In my household, we adore Johnny Depp. I [had] been attempting to design the perfect “Johnny” slouch for a long time. Once this hat was perfected, it quickly became a staple must-have in our arsenal.

SK: What’s the best fashion tip you’ve ever heard or come up with yourself?

RB: The best tip I have ever heard of came from my 11-year-old. She says when creating a bombshell outfit, “less is more.” She states that you put what you think will work on, look in the mirror and take off three to four accent pieces. It’s pure perfection. My tip? To wear what speaks to your heart. If you look at it and it makes you feel good, then it’s a winner. I always go for the easy-wear, comfy clothes and pop it with a great scarf, boots and hat. You don’t have to be uncomfortable to look great.

Printed fleece infinity scarf

Printed fleece infinity scarf | Sheknows.ca

Janelle Warren of Enter the Sun aims to design and create products that promote a healthy mind-body, spirit and world. And this energy and vision shine through the fun, playful, nature-inspired products available in her shop. This printed fleece infinity scarf is sure to keep you cozy and comfortable all through the winter.

SheKnows Canada: What is the one winter fashion item you cannot be without?

Janelle Warren: Well, this one may seem like an obvious one — I love throwing on a circle scarf! They can add a little something to winter outfits, plus keep you cozy warm.

SK: What’s the best fashion tip you’ve ever heard or come up with yourself?

JW: Don’t care too much what other people think, and wear what makes you happy. Also, combining comfort and style is a win-win situation for you! However, the most important piece of advice that I have is to remember that beauty comes from within. As long as you’re confident on the inside, then it will show on the outside, regardless of what you’re wearing.

Convertible scarf dress

Convertible scarf dress | Sheknows.ca

Vicky Dubois of Vicky Dubois Design strives to create pieces that are unique, timeless and made of good, quality fabrics so you can wear them for many years to come. This gorgeous convertible scarf dress, for instance, is made of soft, light fabric, and the striking design will have you feeling both comfortable and fabulous.

SheKnows Canada: What is the one winter fashion item you cannot be without?

Vicky Dubois: I really love scarves — I cannot live without them! I wear lighter ones in the summer and chunkier ones in the winter. I design lots of them for my collection. Most of them are eternity scarves, and I always find beautiful, soft fabrics to make them.

SK: What’s the best fashion tip you’ve ever heard or come up with yourself?

VD: You need to feel [like] yourself in each garment you buy. Fashion is only a guideline; the style you bring to your clothes is priceless. Feel free to be creative in what you wear!

Crocheted fingerless gloves

Crochet fingerless gloves | Sheknows.ca

Moni Suli of Anytime Scarf aims to create pieces that are stylish, functional and affordable, because she believes everyone should be able to look chic no matter their budget. Keep your hands warm and looking great this winter season with these super-cute boho crocheted fingerless gloves.

SheKnows Canada: What is the one winter fashion item you cannot be without?

Moni Suli: My chunky knitted infinity loop scarf, preferably in a timeless cable pattern. I love to loop them two to three times around my neck for a snug, cozy look and wear over my head in windy [or] rainy weather. Even more chic and fun [is] when you pair the scarf with a cozy knitted head wrap to keep your ears warm while looking stylish. Perfect for anytime, anywhere.

SK: What’s the best fashion tip you’ve ever heard or come up with yourself?

MS: Wear what works for you and not necessarily what is currently trending. Wearing colours that bring out your eyes and complement your hair and skin tone is very important. Just because mustard yellow is the must-wear colour of the season doesn’t mean that it looks good against fair skin and blond hair.
