Watching your summer glow fade away can be disappointing, which makes tinted moisturizer even more appealing. Make sure you’re making the most of this attractive time saver with these helpful tips.
Olivia Ha is a Toronto-based makeup artist who has certainly learned her share of tips and tricks over the years. And lucky for us, she’s sharing all she knows about tinted moisturizer!
Is tinted moisturizer for everyone?
Olivia asserts that anyone can wear tinted moisturizer, but different products can be better for different types of skin. So make sure you pick the one that’s right for your skin type (dry, combination, oily, etc.).
Why is it great?
Tinted moisturizers are really good for everyday wear, says Olivia. You can wear it to go to work, for a night out or even while you’re at the gym. The fact that it can act as a moisturizer, colour base and SPF solution all in one step makes it a huge asset. Most formulas can make skin texture appear smoother because of the added hydration, and they can also balance out the varied undertones of colour in the face. Plus, Olivia elaborates, it isn’t too heavy or “mask-like” as can be the case with some foundations, so girls who don’t like that cakey look or feel will be pleased with the results.
What are some of the cons?
As with any beauty product, there are some negatives to consider. For instance, Olivia explains that because it doubles as a moisturizer, oil control is limited. She advises women to use a mattifier underneath the tinted moisturizer if oily skin is an issue. And for women who find the product doesn’t give enough coverage, she recommends using a concealer in troublesome areas. In addition, depending on the product, it may not be as long-lasting as all-day-wear foundations, so reapplication might be necessary.
Which brands of tinted moisturizer are best?
Olivia highly recommends looking for a tinted moisturizer that has an SPF greater than 15 to protect your skin from the sun and prevent aging. She also advises that Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer is great for dry skin, and the brands BECCA, Aveda, Bobbi Brown, Neutrogena, Boots, Stila and Too Faced all have solid options as well. She suggests a good place to start is to read reviews online and see what other consumers have said about a product.
What’s the best way to apply tinted moisturizer?
Applying tinted moisturizer is very simple, so women who don’t like a big makeup job in the morning can rejoice. Olivia explains it can be applied just like a normal moisturizer to all areas of the face. Just pay attention to where you have applied it so one area doesn’t get more colour than the rest. She suggests you set it with a controlled, light dusting of powder for a more matte finish and to help it stay in place longer.
