Friday's Fashion Obsessions: Kiernan Shipka and Kate Mara
Kiernan Shipka and Kate Mara's beautiful celebrity styles made us do a double take this week! We're telling you why in this week's installment of Friday's Fashion Obsessions.
For a teenager, Kiernan Shipka has some pretty amazing style. The Mad Men actress looked simply adorable in this red plaid pleated dress at a recent event, and it's making me feel all Christmas-y inside (even though the holiday has passed)!
Plaid is a tough trend to try. When done the wrong way, it can make you look like a lumberjack, so it's a look we're sometimes hesitant to experiment with. But Kiernan shows us the perfect way to make plaid look feminine and flirty with this dress! The fun black collar and short sleeves add some visual distraction away from the plaid so it's not too much, and the pleats add a dose of fun. Kiernan added black textured tights, pumps, a glossy half updo and glowing makeup to top off her holiday-appropriate ensemble.
The final verdict? If Kiernan looks this great at this age, I can't wait to see what she chooses for red carpets down the road! Well done, girl.
Isn't it funny how two sisters can have such different senses of style? While her sister Rooney leans toward darker, structured pieces, Kate Mara is always on our radar as a feminine, classic dresser. And let's just say she didn't disappoint us in this preppy all-black ensemble!
I love looks you can recycle for multiple purposes, and Kate's outfit works well for the office, play and party time depending on how you accessorize it. I love a Peter Pan collar and am gushing over Kate's embellished collared sweater. But it's how she constructed the rest of her outfit that has me even more excited! Those glossy leather pants, bejeweled black pumps and tote bag give her a girl-in-charge vibe that we all strive to achieve when we're dressing for work. Her slicked back hair and clean makeup only add to the appeal of the look.
The final verdict? Hey Kate, can I raid your closet sometime? I have a totally different sense of style than my sister too, so maybe we can be honorary style sisters?! Wishful thinking, I guess.
