DIY beauty review: Homemade facial for flaky skin
This winter season, embrace snowflakes rather than dry skin flakes with this dermatologist-recommended homemade facial.
Dermatologist-recommended winter skin facial
When I spoke with Dr. Debra Jaliman about a homemade facial to combat my dry winter skin, I was expecting her to recommend a recipe as complicated as my flaky skin problem. Instead, Dr. Jaliman provided me with a simple 10-minute homemade facial recipe that instantly rejuvenated my skin's radiance. If you're struggling with dry and flaky skin this winter, try out this easy homemade facial recipe for instant results!
All you'll need is a tablespoon of honey and one egg yolk, which you probably already have in your refrigerator. The egg yolk is full of vitamins that are great for your skin — including B vitamins, vitamin A and zinc. Honey, too, contains many properties that are fabulous for skin. It's antibacterial, contains antioxidants, clarifies pores and soothes irritated skin.
- Combine the tablespoon of honey with the egg yolk, and whisk together for 30 seconds.
- Liberally apply the mixture on your face and neck. I also applied it on small patches of dry skin on my arms and chest.
- Allow the facial to set for 10 minutes. It will still feel a little sticky to the touch, even after it sets.
- Wash off the facial with a warm washcloth.
How the facial worked for me:
I was a little skeptical since the facial was so simple to execute, but I noticed a significant difference in the softness of my skin within minutes of washing it off. Not only that, my skin felt moisturized through the night and the following morning, which isn't typical for me.
How the facial looked and felt:
The facial felt a little slippery, thanks to the egg. It was less sticky than I expected. And surprisingly, cleanup was a snap because it wasn't messy at all.
What I liked about the facial:
I liked that it was easy to make, and that it altered my dry skin within 10 minutes. I also liked that the recipe makes just enough for one facial, so I didn't feel like I was wasting my groceries on a facial that would quickly spoil.
What I didn't like about the facial:
The slippery feeling of the cold egg on my face was a little gross, and I had to be careful not to get it in my mouth.
I would recommend this product for:
Any woman with dry skin. My skin felt refreshed, moisturized and radiant after just one application.
