Miley Cyrus rocked two topknots at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.

Miley Cyrus seems to get hairstyle inspiration from other celebrities. First, her faux hawk (RIP) was definitely inspired by Pink's short style.

And her 2013 MTV Video Music Awards hairstyle? Most definitely inspired by Gwen Stefani during her early No Doubt days.

The mini knots were perfect for Cyrus' twerk-tastic performance at the 2013 VMAs — and we assume it's part of her attempt to convince us that her hair is growing out. The 20-year-old recently told E! Fashion Police star Kelly Osbourne that she's attempting to grow out her hair.

"I'm secretly tugging on it every night and taking Viviscal. I'm not going to lie. But I'm going to rock it while I have it!" she said.

We definitely prefer the faux hawk to this look, but it's growing on us. Something tells us we shouldn't get used to the '90s throwback style, though: Cyrus is in the midst of discovering herself, and we're bound to watch her go through a bigger style evolution over the next few years.

"I think people forget what it feels like to be 20," she recently told the Associated Press. "People just evolve and that's all that's happened to me."

Do you ever, Miley!
