Salt. Mother Nature’s seasoning. For years, salt has been used as a preservative for food and is very much an essential nutrient for the human body. But just as much as salt (within reason) is vital for our internal health, it’s also crucial in keeping skin and hair youthful. Take a look at two remedies designed to unveil the best our skin and hair have to offer with a supple salt body scrub and salt spray for our precious tresses.
With spring approaching, now it is more important than ever to shed off the drab winter layers and welcome sultry skin and voluptuous locks.
For both recipes, it all begins with the salt. There’s sea salt, kosher salt, iodized salt (or table salt) to name a few. For the body scrub, we recommend using sea salt for the larger granules — thus creating a grittier consistency to scrub away dead skin.
Sea salt scrub
Begin by mixing the following ingredients:
- 1 cup sea salt
- 1/3 cup raw sugar
- 1/2 cup coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon vitamin E oil
- 30 drops essential orange oil
(May add more coconut oil, sea salt or raw sugar based on desired consistency)
Apply to wet skin, either during a bath or shower for best results. This scrub makes for a deliciously scented treat that leaves your skin refreshed and glowing.
Salt spray for hair
And when we want that added oomph in our hair like when we spend a day near the beach, try this home remedy to save all your flat hair days. It’s a wonderful way to add natural looking waves to your tresses while giving your hair a break from the curling iron.
You will need:
- Spray bottle
- 1 cup lukewarm water
- 1 teaspoon salt (either iodized salt or sea salt)
- 1/2 teaspoon coconut oil (to prevent dryness from the salt)
- 1 teaspoon hair gel (to keep the waves in place)
Mix all ingredients together in bottle and spray on damp or dry hair and scrunch upwards.
Now that your skin and hair are ready for spring, it’s time to dig out those sundresses and shorts from the closet.
