When the cold, frosty weather arrives, it’s time to change your beauty regimen. Your moisturizer that worked great all summer long might not be the best choice for winter. Follow these tips to find skin care products, makeup suggestions and other beauty advice for wintertime.
By gently exfoliating your face and body, you can slough away dead skin cells and ward off itchy, dry winter skin. If you have sensitive skin, don’t exfoliate more than once a week and use an exfoliating cream or scrub geared toward your skin type. We like Philosophy The Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash ($25 at Sephora) for the face. It helps replenish and protect your skin with antioxidants as it resurfaces and conditions. Also try The Body Shop Aloe Gentle Exfoliator ($15 at The Body Shop). For the body, Kiehl’s Gentle Exfoliating Body Scrub ($25 at Kiehls.com) is a fabulous choice and comes in grapefruit, lavender or coriander scents.

Use a hydrating mask
Spending time outdoors in the cold, dry, windy weather (and indoors in overheated dry rooms), leaves your skin looking dull and lifeless. Rejuvenate your skin by using a hydrating mask at least once a week in the wintertime. Try Derma E Hyaluronic Hydrating Mask ($18 at Amazon). It blends hyaluronic acid with nourishing olive oil, avocado, jojoba oil, aloe and other organic ingredients to deliver smooth, soft skin.
Apply a rich moisturizer
You might need to buy a heavier facial moisturizer when winter rolls around. Try Kiehl’s Panthenol Protein Moisturizing Face Cream ($26 at Kiehls.com). This cream is created with natural botanical plant proteins, glycerin, panthenol, wheat germ oil and vitamin E to protect, soften and smooth your skin. Use it both day and night for best results.

Don’t forget your hands and feet
For your hands, feet and the rest of your body, look for a moisturizing lotion or cream that contains shea butter to help retain moisture and avocado or coconut oil to heal and hydrate your skin. Mode De Vie Shea Butter Coconut Body Lotion ($22 at MotherNature.com) will leave your skin looking and feeling beautiful. Also, be sure to use lip balm to protect and moisture your lips, as well as a good moisturizing shampoo to hydrate your hair in the winter.
Use creamy makeup
Your makeup routine should change with the seasons. In the winter, switch over from powder foundation to a liquid or cream-to-powder formula. Use a cream or gel blush on the cheeks instead of traditional powder, as well as cream eyeshadow, gel or liquid eyeliner and moisturizing lipstick. Powders can be drying and tend to fade quickly in the cold, wintery weather. For your cheeks, try Dream Mousse Blush from Maybelline. This drugstore blush is only about seven bucks and delivers beautiful, fresh, luminous color that lasts and lasts.
