Is Rihanna bringing back the thong?

Rihanna is single-handedly renewing our interest in the thong. Will we drop out boy shorts in honor of some RiRi-eque G-strings?

We couldn’t get enough of the thong back in 2000: Sisqó recorded “The Thong Song,” and ladies everywhere showed off their stringy underwear in low-rise pants. Then, the minimalist garment faded away — until now: Rihanna is trying to bring back the thong with a few of her recent Instagram posts.

The latest thong shot came on Tuesday night when the “Diamonds” singer Instagrammed a photo of her thong.

“Gotcha b***h tip toeing on my marble flo’!!! Sick a** custom Prada boots! Miuccia you RULE!!! Thank you,” she captioned the photo.

Oh, she was wearing boots? We didn’t notice them — we were too busy being jealous of the singer’s incredible body.

RiRi’s been getting a lot of mileage out of her panties of choice: She was photographed wearing a pair — along with some fishnet tights — during her 25th birthday trip to Hawaii in February.

It’s easy to understand why Rihanna wears a thong. It’s the next best thing to being naked — and we all know how much she loves showing off her body.

At least one person doesn’t appreciate her constant nudity, er, artwork: Her mother.

“I’m not afraid of any person in this world but her. I’m terrified of her,” the singer told Elle magazine in the April 2013 issue. “She called me two days ago and reeled me in about two naked pictures Melissa [her best friend] put up on Instagram — a sneak-peek from a photo book she’s making about me.”

Mom wasn’t pleased.

“My mom, she went crazy on me. I was like embarrassed,” Rihanna recalled. “I felt like I got my [expletive] whupped in front of my class in school! She said, ‘This was like a private moment and you’re just parading this around. She humbled the s**t out of me.”
