Mixing metallics: Add sparkle to classic colors
Once upon a time, we'd never dream of mixing metallics -- in home decor, jewelry, accessories -- it was a major fashion faux pas. Rules are made to be broken, and when it comes to the runway, the edgier the better.
Fashion designer Claudia Patel sees metallics having their moment like never before.
"Metallics are making a comeback for fall. Shimmery gold especially looks to set the fashion trends on fire," says Patel.
The message? Have fun with metallics, and mix and match with your summer outfits for fun, everyday wear that will take you straight into fall.
What does this mean? It means whatever you want it to! Patel suggests pairing a muted nude colored top with gold shorts for a glammed out evening -- make it sexy by pairing with hot pumps.
"At work, accessorize a sleek cobalt blue shift dress (which we know is the color of the moment!) with a rose gold cuff and look like you are ready for business and ready to have some fun after," says Patel.
A lot of our indicators in the world of metallics come from their jewelry history and set examples. Ponder how to mix and match metallic accessories based on your rules for jewelry. It's now totally cool to mix gold and silver chains or bracelets. In fact, ombre jewelry is a THING now!
Metallics are the new neutrals, so have fun and go with your heart -- you can wear them with whatever you want, whenever you want, however you want! Don't be afraid to layer gold, silver and bronze bangles together, or wear silver stilettos even though you are wearing gold earrings. This is your chance to make a statement!
