Product review: Ciate Chalkboard Manicure
Back to school never felt so fun! Find out how Ciate's new chalkboard nail kit measured up to our test.
Name this product:
Ciate Chalkboard Manicure (sephora.com, $25)
What the product claims to do:
This nail kit lets your fingers have all the fun of drawing on a chalkboard. It features black matte polish (akin to the chalkboard look), chalk pens for fun designs and a clear top coat. The chalk pens are water-soluble and wash away easily if you make a mistake drawing.
How it worked for me:
For the most part, it was easy to apply and had a fun texture unlike any other kit I've ever used. It was a lot of fun to play with different designs!
How this product looks and feels:
I was amazed at how realistic this manicure looked when done. Once you apply the black polish, it dries into a chalkboard-like texture. Very neat!
What I liked about this product:
The nail polish dries so quickly, which is a major plus. The brush is easy to use and a great size for precise application, as well. I also love the fact that Ciate includes some doodle suggestions in the kit to get your creativity flowing!
What I would change about this product:
The color in the pens doesn't come out so easily at first. It requires a lot of shaking and you have to press down hard to get it to come out. I recommend dragging the pen while pressing down to get it to come out easily.
I would recommend this product for:
Nail design buffs and newbies alike. The best part about this kit is that it's all about fun, so you don't have to necessarily have a steady hand to play around with different designs. It's a great practice tool for more complex nail art!
