Andrew is a traditionally masculine name with Scottish and Greek roots. It means "manly" or "brave" and also appears in the Bible; Andrew is one of Jesus' 12 apostles and is the patron saint of both Scotland and Russia. He's also the namesake of the famous Scottish town St. Andrews and its university, where Prince William attended school.

Other boys' names that also mean brave or courageous include Evander, Ethan, Everett, Ezekiel, Loewy, Malin, Kenzo, Stone, and Takeo. Other names meaning "manly" include Broderick, Conrad, Constantine, Cyrus, Damon, Dante, Dax, David, Hector, Hudson, Malcolm, Nathan, and Ryder. Or just stick with "A" names for boys (many of these mean brave or manly as well) such as Abir, Alarec, Alfred, Anthony, Anton, Alan, and Aaron.

Andrew has long been a popular name in England and Scotland, ever since the Middle Ages. In the United States, Andrew peaked in usage in 1987, when nearly 20,000 babies per million were named Andrew. It's been declining ever since, and in 2018 reached its least popular year since the beginning of the 1960s.

Famous Andrews (other than the saint) in history and literature include Shakespeare's character Andrew Aguecheek in "Twelfth Night" and Henry Fielding's 18th century novel "Joseph Andrews." Other notable Andrews include Andy Warhol, Andrew Carnegie, President Andrew Jackson, Andrew Lloyd Webber, NY Governor Andrew Cuomo, Andy Cohen, Andrew Garfield, and Prince Andrew, Duke of York.
